Masterful

- First off: The Masters. I’ll eat crow, Tiger didnt win. But I am pretty sure that Tiger proved his point in finishing 4th: he never went anywhere and he will get back to winning majors this year. Rest of the PGA- you are warned. You have to be ecstatic for Phil Mickelson, though. He and his family have been through quite the struggles with his wifes cancer in the past year, but Phil overcame not only those thoughts in the back of his mind, but also Tiger on Masters Sunday to win his 3rd Green Jacket. It just seems like it was yesterday that Phil “could never win the big one.” Now, not only is he winning them, he is winning them emphatically and with style and class. That shot on 13, on Sunday, from the pine-straw, was as gutsy as it was beautiful. 6 years ago, he wouldnt have done that. Now, he is playing with confidence, and KNOWS he can win the big one. Does the public finally have someone they can call a legitimate rival for Tiger? Maybe. Another side note about the Masters: is there a prettier scene in the world than Augusta on Masters Sunday? No.

- Next up: Ben Rothelisberger. What the hell are you thinking dude? You can order hookers to the privacy of your own home if you need some that bad. Why put yourself in a position to be Kobe’d? Whether you did anything or not is inconsequential to me. You shouldnt be there in the first place. Stop growing a mullet, and get your life together. Also, making enemies with Terry Bradshaw is not your best move. Terry will never stop talking. Just make nice with him, enjoy your suspension, and stop being a dirtball. I should be a publicist for dumbass athletes everywhere.

- Holy NFL trades! Going into an uncapped year, everyone assumed trades were going to happen, but not at the magnitude that they happened this off-season. My top 5 “Biggest impact trades”:
1) Brandon Marshall to Miami. Miami, enjoy the 2nd best WR in the NFL.
2) Donovan McNabb to the Redskins. Washington now makes the playoffs.
3) Antonio Cromartie to NY Jets. Now the Jets have 2 lockdown corners.
4) Karlos Dansby to Miami. Again the Dolphins pick up one of the best Linebackers in the league.
5) Santonio Holmes to the Jets. The Jets now have 2, #1 receivers as well. More weapons for Mark Sanchez.

- Next week I will provide my own Mock NFL Draft. I hope I come close.

- Probably my favorite story of the week: Bulls GM Mark Paxon hits Coach Vinny Del Negro over Joakim Noah’s playing time. Im sure this isnt the first time management and coaches have gotten into it, but 2 things make this even weirder for me. 1) it was over Joakim Noah…I wasnt aware anyone still cared about Noah….not even Billy Donovan. 2) The Bulls just made the playoffs.

- NBA Playoffs start this week. My1st round predictions:
-Cavs over Bulls
-Magic over Bobcats
-Atlanta over Milwaukee
-Miami over Boston
-LA over Thunder
-Mavs over Spurs
-Suns over Blazers
-Nuggets over Jazz

- Soccer update: Chelsea will be defending their FA Cup title in the Championship against Portsmouth after defeating Aston Villa 3-0 Saturday. The Blues also won their league game against Bolton on Tuesday to go 4 points clear of Manchester United and 6 clear of Arsenal. Could be a Chelsea Double this year. Also, Barcelona beat Real Madrid on Sunday 2-0 in an extremely hard fought and energetic game. El Classico was a great spectacle. In the Champions League I have Lyon vs. Barca for the title.

- A big grown-man shout-out to former Husker, Carl Nicks. Nicks left Nebraska on bad terms in the Spring of 2008 after not going to class before the NFL draft and getting in trouble with the law. Then new coach Bo Pelini didnt let Nicks participate in Nebraska’s pro-day and told him to not come around the football program. Nick’s helped the Saints win the Super Bowl in February and on Wednesday decided to come back to spring practice to not only watch, but to apologize to Bo and the program for leaving on bad terms. He wanted to be able to represent the university in a positive way. Good job Carl. I know that admitting your wrongs wasnt easy to do, but you gained a lot of respect back by doing it. Way to be a role model.

- The Red-White game is on Saturday. Nothing like a glorified scrimmage to wet Husker fans appetite for the 2010 season. My top 3 storylines to look for on Saturday:
1) Quarterback: Will Cody Green, Taylor Martinez, or someone else step up to challenge Zac Lee?
2) D-line: how good can this group be? Jason Ankrah will be a beast this year.
3) Wide Receiver: who will step up behind Niles Paul and Brandon Kinne?

- Im getting a new phone in May. Looking hard at getting a Droid. Any thoughts or opinions on smartphones?

- Im going to see Lupe Fiasco on Sunday in KC. Should be absolutely phenomenal. Pics and stories to come.

- Newsflash: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is obnoxious. This clip of him not waxing poetic on Tim Tebow and Bill Parcells proves it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/14/jerry-jones-talks-tim-teb_n_537284.html

- If you care about great journalism and stories: watch E60 on ESPN. This show is the very best of what ESPN and journalism has to offer. Here is the story of Ed Thoms from Parkersburg Iowa: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5082690

- Love this Sarah Palin skit by Tina Fey: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/11/sarah-palin-network-video_n_533094.html
